Eventhouse
Definition
An Eventhouse is a Microsoft Fabric container for one or more KQL databases and their tables. It is designed for storing and analyzing time-oriented event data, including telemetry, logs, IoT or time-series records, security events, and free text. Its storage and indexing model is optimized for fast exploration of large, continuously arriving datasets rather than for a conventional relational workload. 1
Where it sits in Fabric
Eventhouse is the storage and query anchor of Fabric Real-Time Intelligence. An eventstream can collect, transform, and route incoming events to an Eventhouse; analysts then query the resulting KQL database with Kusto Query Language (KQL), using an embedded or standalone KQL queryset. A workspace can contain multiple eventhouses, and each eventhouse can contain multiple KQL databases. 2 4 5
Eventhouse also connects real-time data with the broader Fabric platform. When OneLake availability is enabled for a KQL database or table, Fabric creates a logical Delta Lake representation that other experiences, such as Power BI Direct Lake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, or notebooks, can consume. This makes the same operationally current data available beyond native KQL analysis. 3
When to use it
Choose an Eventhouse when the question is about what is happening now or what happened across a stream of timestamped events. It fits operational monitoring, connected-device telemetry, application and security logs, anomaly investigation, and other workloads that need frequent ingestion and low-latency filtering, aggregation, or correlation. Use an eventstream upstream when you need no-code filtering, cleansing, windowed aggregation, or routing before storage. 2 4
Practical example
A manufacturing team can route machine-temperature events through an eventstream into an Eventhouse. A KQL query can group readings by machine and time window, identify sustained threshold breaches, and feed a Real-Time dashboard for operators. The same database can be made available in OneLake for a Power BI model or notebook that combines live readings with historical maintenance data. 2 3 4
Production caution
OneLake availability is not a promise of an instantaneous mirror. Microsoft documents a default write delay of up to three hours, or until sufficiently sized Parquet files are formed; reducing that delay can create many small files and weaken downstream query performance. While availability is enabled, operations such as renaming tables, changing a column type, applying row-level security, or deleting and purging data are restricted. Design retention, schema evolution, and downstream freshness expectations deliberately. 3
Workshop connection
In Module 9, treat Eventhouse as the meeting point for the related terms: KQL is the analysis language, Real-Time Intelligence is the end-to-end event workflow, and OneLake is the bridge to other Fabric engines. Together they show how streaming data moves from ingestion to query, visualization, and wider analytical use.
