Create a Medallion Architecture in a Fabric Lakehouse
This guided lab connects raw files, transformation logic and analytical serving into a small Medallion Architecture. Participants move sales data from Bronze through a controlled Silver Delta layer into curated Gold fact and dimension tables ready for exploration.
What the lab covers
- Creating a Lakehouse and organizing incoming data in a Bronze layer.
- Using notebooks to standardize and load a Silver Delta table.
- Reviewing Delta upsert patterns for incoming changes.
- Building curated Gold fact and dimension structures.
- Exploring the Silver layer through the SQL analytics endpoint.
- Preparing relationships that make the Gold layer ready for semantic consumption.
Learning outcome
By the end of the lab, participants can articulate why Bronze, Silver and Gold layers represent different quality and ownership contracts—not merely folders. They can also explain how Delta operations, fact/dimension design and semantic-model relationships connect a data-engineering pipeline to usable analytics.
Workshop connection
This lab supports Module 04 — Data Cleaning & Transformation with Spark and acts as the module’s end-to-end architecture exercise. It gives the team a practical reference for discussing repeatability, upserts, curated data products and the transition from Lakehouse engineering to analytical consumption.
