Create a Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse
This guided lab turns the Lakehouse approach into a small working environment. Participants create a workspace and Lakehouse, load a sample file, inspect the OneLake layout, create a Delta table and query it through the SQL analytics endpoint.
What the lab covers
- Creating a Fabric workspace and Lakehouse.
- Uploading a small data file into OneLake Files.
- Loading file data into a managed Delta table.
- Running a simple SQL aggregation through the SQL analytics endpoint.
- Applying a visual query to explore the same data.
- Cleaning up the temporary resources at the end of the exercise.
Learning outcome
By the end of the lab, participants can describe how files, managed Delta tables, SQL access and visual exploration fit together in a Fabric Lakehouse. The exercise gives the team a shared reference point for later discussions about ingestion, transformation and serving choices.
Workshop connection
This lab supports Module 02 — Fabric Lakehouse Approach. It is deliberately small: the goal is not to build a production data product, but to make the storage and serving boundaries visible before the workshop moves into more complex architecture decisions.
