Create and Use Dataflows Gen2
This guided lab introduces Dataflows Gen2 as a repeatable ingestion and transformation layer. Participants connect to a sample orders CSV through Power Query Online, derive a month field, configure a Lakehouse destination and then place the Dataflow inside a Data Pipeline.
What the lab covers
- Creating a Fabric workspace and Lakehouse for the exercise.
- Connecting Dataflow Gen2 to a CSV source through Power Query Online.
- Adding a derived
MonthNo column from OrderDate.
- Configuring a Lakehouse destination table named
orders.
- Reviewing the difference between append and replace behavior.
- Running the Dataflow Gen2 from a Data Pipeline and validating the output.
Learning outcome
By the end of the lab, participants can describe where Dataflow Gen2 fits in an ingestion design, how its applied steps make transformations inspectable, and why destination write mode matters when a workflow is rerun. They also have a concrete Lakehouse table to use when discussing repeatability and duplicate-load controls.
Workshop connection
This lab supports Module 03 — Fabric Data Ingestion Management. It starts with a visual, low-code path into the module before the workshop compares pipelines, Dataflows Gen2 and notebook-based transformations as operating choices.
