Govern Analytics Data in Microsoft Fabric
This lab makes governance tangible through a small but realistic asset chain. Participants work with a Lakehouse and a semantic model, document the assets, apply promoted endorsement and review how discoverability, security, lineage and change impact meet in the OneLake catalog.
What the lab covers
- Creating a dedicated Lakehouse scenario and a semantic model as a governed downstream consumer.
- Adding useful descriptions and promoted endorsements to strengthen discovery and trust signals.
- Exploring asset details and endorsement information in the OneLake catalog.
- Reviewing governance health and security visibility through the Govern and Secure experiences.
- Tracing lineage from the Lakehouse through its analytical consumption path and assessing downstream impact before change.
Learning outcome
Participants can distinguish discoverability from authorization, explain why endorsed metadata still needs access controls, and identify why lineage and impact analysis should be part of a schema-change or decommissioning decision.
Workshop connection
This overview supports Module 10 — Administration & Governance. It closes the workshop by connecting individual Fabric assets to the operating model that makes them understandable, discoverable and safer to change.
Access note
Use sample data in a dedicated lab workspace. Endorsement improves discovery but does not grant access, and any production change still requires an access, lineage and impact review. Detailed participant steps, sample asset URLs, screenshots and full materials are provided during the workshop; this public overview does not publish them.
