Ingest Data with a Fabric Data Pipeline
This guided lab follows an end-to-end ingestion path: copy a sales CSV from an HTTP source into a Lakehouse landing folder, enrich it with a Spark notebook and orchestrate the process through a Fabric Data Pipeline.
What the lab covers
- Creating a schema-enabled Lakehouse and a
Files/new_data landing folder.
- Configuring a Copy Data activity with an HTTP CSV source.
- Loading the file into OneLake before transformation.
- Using a Spark notebook to add business-friendly fields such as year, month and customer-name attributes.
- Passing a
table_name parameter from the pipeline to the notebook.
- Orchestrating Delete Data, Copy Data and Notebook activities.
- Validating the resulting Delta table and discussing duplicate-load behavior.
Learning outcome
By the end of the lab, participants can trace a small batch ingestion workflow from source to Lakehouse table and identify where orchestration, parameters, restart behavior and deduplication controls belong. The exercise makes the hand-off between ingestion, Spark transformation and pipeline operations visible.
Workshop connection
This lab supports Module 03 — Fabric Data Ingestion Management and acts as the most orchestration-heavy practice in the module. It gives the team a concrete reference for comparing a pipeline-centered design with Dataflow Gen2 and notebook-first alternatives.
