Ingest Real-Time Data with Eventstream in Microsoft Fabric
This lab uses bicycle telemetry to show how a Fabric Eventstream can capture, route and transform event data. Participants compare a raw event destination with an aggregated result that summarizes activity by street over short time windows.
What the lab covers
- Connecting a built-in bicycle sample source to an Eventstream.
- Storing incoming events in an Eventhouse KQL database.
- Exploring the raw stream with KQL.
- Grouping bicycle counts by street in five-second tumbling windows.
- Validating the transformed output in preview and with a query.
Learning outcome
Participants can explain the difference between retaining source events and producing a time-windowed aggregate. They can trace a stream through its source, transformation and destination, then use KQL to review the resulting data.
Workshop connection
This overview supports Module 09 — Real-Time Intelligence & KQL. It focuses on the ingestion and transformation layer that underpins event-driven analytics and operational dashboards.
Access note
The lab requires a Microsoft Fabric tenant and a paid or trial capacity. Event ingestion and preview refresh can take time, and the sample stream continues to change while active. Detailed participant instructions are supplied during the workshop; no PDF, screenshot or dataset is published here.
